How To Ask For Customer Reviews Without Sounding Cringy!

4November 2021

Do you sound cringy when asking your customers for reviews?

Did you know that 91% of consumers between the ages of 19 and 34 trust reviews, and consumers are more likely to trust your business if you have 40 or more reviews.

If you do not currently have a strong customer review presence, it’s time to get serious about developing one and stop sounding cringy when asking for customers reviews.

So, here’s the great news?

68% of consumers who are asked to leave an evaluation want to do so!

Here are 3 non-cringe methods to ask for a customer review:

1. In Person:

If you have a brick-and-mortar store, then requesting customer reviews may be the way to go. The trick is doing it in such a way that it does not feel forced or put undue pressure on your customer.

Start by asking the customer if they found everything they were trying to find. Any customer who praises your shop or products represents a positive review!

But don’t blow it!

It’s not a good idea to request a customer to give a review quickly or as soon as a customer says something positive.

Ask a few non-follow-up questions.

Then as you end the conversation, continue with something like…

“We truly appreciate feedback from our customers because it assists more people to learn more about us. Would you be willing to write an online review?”

You can plug in your platform of choice whether it’s Yelp, Google, or Facebook.

2. SMS Messages:

Text messages have almost a 100% open rate. I’m sure you don’t feel cringy when asking for a  customer review if it’s a text message.  So, if you’re already sending text messages to your consumers, then following up on a purchase with a request for a review can be a fantastic method to produce more evaluations!

Considering that it’s a text message, it should be brief. You can attempt something like:

“It was excellent seeing you today, [consumer’s name] If we supplied top-notch service to you today, would you please think about taking a couple of seconds and leaving us a review? Give them your evaluation link.

3. Ask Your Social Media Followers:

Facebook reviews are essential for local organizations because many individuals use Facebook to look for organizations near them. You have the choice of requesting customer reviews in a Facebook post or using a chatbot in Facebook Messenger to ask.

If you decide to utilize a chatbot, you may want to consider setting up a survey directly within the chatbot if you want to gather evaluations to publish on your website.

Otherwise, you can just ask people to leave a review somewhere else like Google and Yelp.

Pointer: Be mindful not to connect straight to your Yelp Page for your social media pages as Yelp frowns upon asking consumers for reviews.
